2 Day Salsa & Zouk Bootcamp in Kuala Lumpur

What You will Experience: -

  • Learn a performance routine in just 3 hours and debut the performance with Sharon and her team when they perform it for the first time in Kuala Lumpur!!
  • Essential tips that will help you jazz up your dance presentation – Learn body movements and styling techniques to accentuate your dance repertoire and make you stand out on the dance floor
  • Tips and techniques to help you master your spins – Lead & Follow techniques and styling tips to Zouk.
  • Learn how to combines some contemporary techniques in this Brazilian dance, as well as understand how you can dance better socially with anyone

Programme:

DAY ONE: Saturday, 5th November 2011

2 pm – 3 pm Spin Technique

What is it?

Always wanted to spin like a top? This is the workshop Sharon is renown for and has taught all over the world. It is guaranteed to help you understand your own spinning centre, find your speed and precision and all the little details that will make you spin and turn and twirl! For both men and women, this workshop promises to make you more confident about technical details about spinning and give you lots of drills to practice at home too.

3 pm – 6 pm Salsa Performance Class

What is it?

Sharon is renown for her cheeky choreographies that feature high levels of musicality, great energy, and of course, lots of cool moves. Learn about presentation, musical interpretation, technique, lines and styling whilst learning a short routine, and then in the ultimate challenge, perform it THAT NIGHT at the PARTY with Sharon’s own team from her school in Melbourne (who’ll be learning it right alongside you!). This is a great chance to experience training as one of sharon’s team without having to move to Australia

DAY TWO: Sunday, 6th November 2011

2pm – 5 pm Men’s & Ladies Styling Workshop (body movement, styling techniques and partner styling)

What is it?

This 3 hour workshop is designed for both men and woman. One of the most popular workshops that Sharon teaches, this intensive session will start with body movement, move onto solo styling, and then finish off with using everything you’ve learnt whilst social dancing with a partner. Be ready to sweat and move, and truly feel like you’re using your whole body in dance. Learn fundamentals of afro cuban body movement, how to move with agility and smoothness, understand control and isolations, and most importantly, how to use it all with a partner!

5pm – 6 pm Zouk Fundamentals with James from Rio Rhythmics

What is it?

James is one of Kadu and Larissa’s best team members, James has been training under them for 5 years. With his amazing musicality, his fine tuned understanding of zouk technique, lead and follow, James will take you through fundamentals and styling in this workshop. Learn how he combines some contemporary techniques in this Brazilian dance, as well as understand how you can dance better socially with anyone!

About Sharon Pakir

Sharon Pakir is a trained specialist instructor and performer in salsa, mambo (on2 salsa/New York style salsa), cha cha, bachata and merengue. She was Melbourne’s pioneer specialist in on2 salsa and was responsible for introducing it to the local salsa scene. Sharon’s foremost passion in dance is teaching. Her teaching methods are clear and nurturing, and her ability to communicate to people the joy of dance is unsurpassed. While Sharon focuses on technical precision in dancing, she also emphasizes teaching musicality, the importance of meaningful interaction, and how to communicate with your partner and express yourself while dancing. Sharon is known around the world for her unique teaching methods, which emphasize not just dance itself but how to use dance as a tool to enrich one’s life in aspects ranging from posture and deportment to engagement and communication skills. Through this, along with her professional achievements, Sharon has helped to put Melbourne and Australia on the world salsa map Sharon is recognised internationally, and has been invited to teach and perform at dance events in cities around the world including Singapore, Sydney, Hong Kong, Seoul, San Francisco, Tokyo, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Wellington, and Los Angeles.

A regular at salsa congresses around the world, Sharon was selected to instruct, with Gupson Pierre, at the West Coast Salsa Congress in 2006, the largest salsa event in the world. Sharon is Melbourne’s first and only salsa instructor who has taught at this event, which draws over 25,000 dancers from over 42 countries each year.

In 2004, Sharon emerged the Australian Salsa Champion after taking part in the Tropicana Australian Salsa Competition.She was also named the Victorian International Dancesport Association Salsa Champion in both 2004 and 2005. In 2007, Sharon and her Singaporean dance partner Wee Tze Yi emerged the top Singaporean couple winning the ASEAN Salsa Championship. As a result, Sharon regularly represents Singapore and Australia when attending international dance events. Sharon teaches and performs all over Australia, having been invited to every major latin event held Australia-wide. She consistently commands full-house attendances for her renown workshops in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra. Sharon now sits as an adjudicator of many salsa competitions. Each year, she judges at the World Qualifier, Australian Salsa Classic and the Australian Salsa Solo Competition in Sydney. She also brings teams to perform at international and interstate events; since 2007, she has regularly led student and professional dance teams to perform in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, all over Australia and New Zealand, where they wowed international audiences.
